The Formula E is an all-electric racing championship that has been gaining popularity over the last few years. Some of the biggest car brands are already part of the championship, which will get even more interesting in the seasons to come. The reason for this is because BMW Motorsport has decided it wants to join in on the fun.
The German automaker has announced that it will enter the season 5 of the all-electric racing series, which will begin in 2018. In a way, BMW is already involved in Formula E, mainly through the backing of the MS Amlin Andretti team.
Additionally, it is also the Official Vehicle Partner of the championship. The BMW i8 is currently the safety car, while the i3 model serves as a medical vehicle. Starting in 2018, BMW will also enter Formula E with its own team in hopes of winning the championship.
In the first season of Formula E, teams had to use the same vehicles. This is no longer the case, as they are now allowed to modify the electric motors, the inverter as well as the transmission. In the 2018-2019 season, things will get even more interesting, as additional changes will be implemented to make the races more entertaining and competitive.
BMW obviously won’t be the only well-known brand that will compete in season 5 of Formula E. Other teams like Jaguar Land Rover, NextEV NIO, Renault, and Venturi Automobiles, among others, will also compete in the championship. It will be exciting to see which one will come out on top.
