Gogoro has introduced an updated version of its popular electric scooter. Called the Gogoro 2 Smartscooter, it comes equipped with a new 6.4 kW G2 motor that, in combination with a new digital drivetrain system, promises smoother torque and more control. There are two modes to choose from. The first is Smart, which offers more efficiency and increased range, while the second called Sport enables a higher top speed and greater acceleration.
The scooter has a top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph) and a range of 110 kilometers (68 miles). It has larger wheels — 14-inch front and 13-inch rear — and features Gogoro’s new Synchronized Braking System. The seat is bigger so it’s easier to ride with a friend, and you’ll also find more storage underneath it. It’s big enough to fit two helmets.
The vehicle comes in six colors: white, gray, orange, blue, yellow, and red. You have the option of pimping it out with the help of more than 50 custom accessories. The scooter has LED lights and comes in two versions. There’s the standard version and the Plus variant, which also features a color display designed for better visibility during the day and offers the option of mounting your smartphone to the dashboard.
Along with the Gogoro 2 Smartscooter, the company also announced an upgraded version of its app. You now have to use a PIN code or your fingerprint to start the vehicle, which makes it “virtually unstealable.”
The Gogoro 2 Smartscooter will be available in Taiwan this summer and the company claims that pricing starts at TWD 38,800 (around $1,300/€1,150) after government incentives. It will make its way to other markets around the world by the end of the year.
So far, Gogoro has sold 21,500 units of its electric scooter (first generation). There are around a 1,000 of them available in Berlin as part of Coup Scooter Sharing Service. The service is now expanding to Paris and bringing 600 Gogoro 2 Smartscooters to the City of Love this summer.
