Tesla Model S P90D

Just yesterday, Elon Musk tweeted that there will be a software update coming to Tesla’s high-end Model S next month, which will allow it to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds. But there is a catch – you will need to figure out how to enable it.

An insanely fast car to get even faster

The Model S P100D is already one of the world’s fastest accelerating cars out there, in the ranks of full-fledged racing cars like the Bugatti Veyron and the Porsche 918 Spyder. Just to things in perspective, these aforementioned sports cars cost more than a million dollars usually. The Model S P100D, on the other hand, is “only” $134,500.

Well, with the new software update coming next month, Tesla’s electric vehicle is set to become even faster. According to Elon Musk, all P100D vehicles produced to date will receive this software optimization, and with it, the car will be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds.

Enabling the update is another question…

So the update will make your car faster, but there is a twist: you have to first find out how to enable it. It’s Tesla’s new “Easter Egg,” something that we see a lot in mobile operating systems. An Easter Egg is essentially a hidden feature that is enabled only when unlocked through specific gestures. Now, this isn’t the first time that Tesla has done something like this. With the Tesla display update, entering the code “007” transformed the display interface into James Bond’s Lotus control panel.

Although we don’t know what the secret code to enable the speed boost will be just yet, apparently, a possible hint is in Musk’s reply to a Twitter user, in which he said, “It is not actually left-handed.” Musk’s reply is said to be a reference to the film Princess Bride where the two characters reveal mid-fight that they’ve been using their weaker sword hand to even the playing field.
