Nissan UK is offering an optional X-Scape pack with its X-Trail SUV, which includes a Parrot Bebop 2 follow-me drone for £500.
Drones and cars in a package – when will it become mainstream?
Cars and drones coming in a package isn’t exactly a new concept: we’ve seen multiple concept cars that are equipped with traffic-spotting drones. However, the question remains, “When will we see this combination in the mainstream?”
Well, Nissan is taking us one step closer to the dream by offering an optional X-Scape package with its X-Trail family SUV. Currently, the option is only available in the UK for £500 with no words on whether it will come to North American markets like the US.
Parrot Bebop 2 drone onboard
The X-Scape package comes with the Parrot Bebop 2 drone, which is internally the same as the standard Bebop; the only difference is that this particular drone sports special Nissan branding. Weighing around 500g, the drone is capable of providing First Person View functionality with its 14-megapixel camera and has a total flight time of up to 25 minutes. It’s also equipped with GPS and visual tracking technology, so the idea is that you can document your exciting journey in your SUV with this follow-me drone.
As Nissan describes, this is what you get with the X-Scape package:
- Special version pack X-Trail crossover with advanced Parrot Bebop 2 drone as standard
- ‘Follow me’ tracking option ensures owners can create lasting memories of family adventures
- First Person View (FPV) functionality means unique footage of days out
- Backpack storage for ultimate portability
- Available on all N-Vision and Tekna grades as a £500 option
The company adds that the planned production of the X-Trail X-Scape special version is approximately 1,200 units for Europe, 200 units allocated specifically for the UK.
