Just like Ford, Volkswagen announced a partnership with Amazon at CES in Las Vegas. The German-based company will soon bring Amazon’s Alexa virtual assistant into its cars through a tap-to-talk integration on the head unit.
The integration will make Volkswagen’s cars smarter as well as safer because you won’t have to put your hands off the steering wheel to perform certain functions. With Alexa, you’ll be able to play music you like, set notifications, order replacement parts for the vehicle, and a bunch of other things with voice commands.
But that’s not all. By using one of Amazons’s Alexa enabled devices such as the Echo or the Echo Dot, you’ll also be able to get certain information regarding your Volkswagen car when you’re sitting at home in the living room. Check your car’s fuel level, order replacement parts, and even send directions to the vehicle with Alexa’s help.
These are just some of the features that the Alexa integration with Volkswagen’s vehicles will bring. There are more to come, which will be announced later this year when we’ll also find out when exactly will the Alexa integration be available in the company’s cars and in which ones.
It’s interesting to see how much technology is changing cars. Voice-activated virtual assistants are a great way to simplify how we control certain functions of our vehicle and at the same time, make our drive a bit safer, which is always a good thing.
