President Trump is seriously considering withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement. Although an official decision has not been announced yet, rumors claim that Trump has already made up his mind to back out of the world’s largest climate agreement.

If true, the President will have to say goodbye to one of its well-known advisors. Elon Musk has recently tweeted, “Don’t know which way Paris will go, but I’ve done all I can to advise directly to POTUS, through others in WH & via councils, that we remain.” When asked what will he do if Trump decides to withdraw from the agreement, Musk responded he’ll have to call it quits and leave all advisory councils.

It’s worth pointing out that the Paris agreement is voluntary and doesn’t have consequences in terms of penalties or fees for countries that fail to meet their set targets. Based on this info, many believe that there’s no real benefit for the US to withdraw from it.

Elon Musk has been criticized in the past for his involvement on Trump administration’s advisory councils. Back in February, during Trump’s controversial immigration ban, he said that despite not agreeing with his decision, he will not leave the Presidential Advisory Forum. Instead, he expresses objections to the executive order on immigration as well as offered a few suggestion on how to change the policy.

But as Trump keeps making decisions that are against Musk’s values, the CEO of Tesla is ready to call it quits. Unfortunately, his possible departure probably won’t be a good enough reason to convince Trump not to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.
