At SXSW in Austin, Texas, a startup called NIO unveiled two interesting things. The first is that its autonomous electric cars will be available in the US in 2020. This is the year the majority of other car makers also plan on releasing self-driving vehicles, that look to be the future of the industry.

The second announcement from NIO is an autonomous concept car called EVE. The vehicle looks great and very futuristic, although not a whole lot is known about it. Padmasree Warrior, the company’s CEO, said that EVE will make your journey safe, productive, as well as enjoyable.

A robot on wheels, as it is referred to in the press release, it comes equipped with NOMI, which is an artificial intelligence engine that has an intuitive human interface. It provides passengers with verbal and visual connections within the car and with the outside world. It also uses the vehicle’s active glass to offer an augmented vision for passengers as well as entertainment that will make the journey a lot more enjoyable.

The NIO EVE doesn’t have the conventional A and B pillars and features a wide forward-sliding door as well as a great looking interior. There’s a primary seating area for passengers in the back with a discrete folding table that can be used for both work and play. There’s also an additional seat available that reclines for when you want to relax or even get some sleep. As NIO puts it, the vehicle is designed from the inside out for autonomy.

These are the details we know about the vehicle so far. This is obviously just a concept, which means that the first autonomous car the company will announce in 2020 might look a lot different and will surely offer a bunch of additional features that will make the driving experience even better.

Update: Here is the video of the launch event. The NIO team talk about their concepts of a car and the future, then, of course, uncover the silver, yet powder-blue looking, Eve. Enjoy.
