Chinese car maker Qoros showed off its new EV concept at the Shanghai Auto Show. The high-performance vehicle is called the Model K-EV, can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.6 seconds, and offers a range of up to 500 km or 311 miles.
However, the car’s performance is not what makes it stand out from the crowd. What does is its design, which is…different. It’s one of those things that some will love, while others will hate. The Model K-EV features an asymmetric door design, meaning no two doors on the car are alike.
You’ll find a large gull-wing door on the driver’s side that automatically opens and provides access to both the front and the back seat. Over on the passenger’s side, things are quite different. The front door is “normal” and can be opened like any other on a standard car, while you’ll have to slide the rear door towards the back of the EV to get into it. Check out the images below.
This setup is definitely unique but isn’t the most practical thing in the world. The only reason why the company has decided to opt for an asymmetric door design is to make the car different from the rest. Those looking to stand out just might be interested in getting it, whereas others will probably just take their business elsewhere.
Keep in mind that this is still a concept, so the final design of the EV might be totally different when (or rather if) it goes into production. The company is just showcasing the vehicle at the auto show to see the reactions it gets from consumers. If everything goes according to plan, the Model K-EV will be launched in 2019.
